Rules for periodic reassessment
Periodic Reassessment is not institutionalised at an European level. Each member state has its own rules and legislation. The responsibility rests upon the user of the blastpot, not the manufacturer.
In the Netherlands, there is a periodic re-inspection requirement once every four years. This must be carried out by an Notified Body when the design pressure multiplied by the volume exceeds 1000 (Ps x V = >1000). One of the first things the NoBo will ask for is the operating instructions of the blast pot and the CE Declaration of Conformity in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU. Examples
If the result of the design pressure multiplied by the volume is less than 1000, the user can inspect the installation himself. In most cases, this is done by the manufacturer or dealer, who has the required expertise.
- 200-litre blast pot with a maximum pressure of 10 bar (10 x 200 = 2000) → Re-inspection every 4 years by Notified Body.
- 40-litre blast pot with maximum pressure of 8 bar (8 x 40 = 320) → Re-inspection every 4 years by user (or manufacturer / dealer).
